New blog category: places that inspire me. In 2009, I fell in love with the ACE Hotel in New York and when we started planning our 2010 wedding in California, I knew that we had to somehow incorporate the ACE Palm Springs into our plans. We had a mini honeymoon there and came home relaxed and incredibly inspired. Their decor was the perfect mix of vintage industrial and southwest with clean, simple materials...aka, an example of how my husband and I could blend our very different styles. We are still working on our home, but have acquired a few key pieces, like our lineberry cart and saarinen table, while building our succulent and rug collection. Fantastic article about the ACE hotels HERE.
I recently styled a shoot photographed by Erika Hokanson. The wardrobe was inspired by the novel & 1970 film, Love Story. Blake Myers was our sweet and funny model, a new face with Next. See more photos after the break or click here.
I recently has the pleasure of working with photographer Adam Secore on a project in LA (which I'll share later). Aside from being super talented, Adam is also a sweetheart...I mean, badass (don't want to ruin his rep). Check out some of his work below, as well as his online diary HERE.
Bangs have always been a sensitive issue for me...I think that the biggest fight my mother and I ever had was over growing out my bangs, which at that point had been permed for the better part of 3 years so that I could wear them nice and puffy...regardless, after years of the sideswept "faux" bangs, I made the chop last week. Not only are they fresh, youthful and kinda sexy, they also allow me to go for much longer periods of time between highlights as they disguise my (gasp!!) grey hair. Yikes.
I'm a huge supporter of Etsy...and I have the closet to prove it ;) Many times throughout the week, I'm inspired to search for very specific items, usually finding just the right thing the first time around. This week's obsession is black leather fringe jackets, mainly circa 1980s. Here are my top picks currently available on Etsy.
If I'm not careful, I can spend hours devouring other people's images. There are quite a few amazing blogs out there, and I'm mostly obsessed with what other people are wearing. I'm not sure exactly what is so intriguing to me, but I marvel at each lady's ability to look effortlessly calm, cool and collected. I get tons of ideas for myself and find new ways to wear pieces in my own wardrobe. Currently, 3 lovely lass's from California are at the top of my list. In no particular order, they are Coury from Fancy Treehouse, Ashley from Purse n Boots, and Beth from B.Jones Style.
Coury, whom I hope to meet next week while I'm in LA, inspires me most with her unexpected color combinations like lavender/red, her ability to rock a pair of flat loafers (and shorts!) like nobody's business and her excellent attention to proportion.
Ashley, well, she's just cool. Her combo of rocker, bohemian, sorceress, speaks to my inner Stevie Nicks (completely obsessed). Hands down, she's got the best accessories, and wears them all at the same time, in gorgeous, bold clusters. I'm most inspired by her layering abilities, complete confidence, and extreme hemlines both long and short.
Beth often references her "inner Carrie", and she's got as many creative hairstyles as she does outfits! I'm inspired by her incredible vintage collection, her bold taste (hello gold leather pants!) and her need to plan her wardrobe according to where her travels take her (she crafts a new look for each location, just like yours truly).
Thanx ladies for the copious amounts of inspiration. xo
