my new favorite book and I'm not even finished yet

a friend of Freddy's had an extra copy of Eat, Pray, Love and decided to send it my way.  It's been aEatpraylove really long time since I read a book that I could relate to on so many levels yet didn't bore me or annoy me.  I don't really know how to explain this book except that it's one woman's journey to "find herself" which sounds corny but I promise you is anything but......so I'm telling anyone who will listen that they should read this book and let me know what they think.....I'm almost finished with my copy so let me know if you want to borrow it ;  )

“If you are brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting (which can be anything from your house to your bitter old resentments) and set out on a truth-seeking journey (either externally or internally), and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue, and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher, and if you are prepared – most of all – to face (and forgive)some very difficult realities about yourself….then truth will not be withheld from you.”

really excited about

While Sienna Miller may not have the best manners of late, I think she's a wonderful actress and I love her look.  Guy Pierce is not too shabby either and I think he makes a great Warhol -- but we can all judge for ourselves on December 29th.

my secret life as a movie critic

Poster_1 One weekend every month I host a movie marathon for myself featuring anything I want old and new.  This particular event involved a strict diet of melba toast, light laughing cow cheese and red wine plus some comfy but chic sweats and my partner in crime, my little dog rocco.  I saw High Fidelity on an airplane some years ago and fell asleep, read the book this summer, loved it and wanted to revisit the film, which was mildly entertaining, save it for a rainy weekend. Me Without You features Michelle Williams pre-Brokeback Mountain stylist makeover and it's wonderful, highly recommend it.  I also LOVED a Slipping-Down Life with Lili Taylor so much; it's a really simple movie but for some reason it moved me and there was this great chemistry that seemed believable between Guy Pierce and Lili.....

let them eat cake

Img01_3   I've had a mild obsession with Sofia Coppola since I was a teenager and my cousin told me that I looked like her (which I don't by the way; I saw her on Elizabeth Street one day and I don't think anyone would ever make the comparison).  I have obsessively watched her 2 movies; The Virgin Suicides & Lost in Translation and I'm anxiously awaiting the debut of Marie Antoinette which I'm predicting to be the most stylish movie of the year with a few Oscar nods, most assuredly in the costume, makeup and art direction categories.  If you're a fan, you'll really appreciate this amazing behind the scenes look at the September Vogue cover shoot by Annie Leibovitz.

the devil wears prada this weekend

Wallpaper_01_800_1 Usually, I detest movies turned into books, they're just awful, a la the Da Vinci code, the Firm, .....ok, Bridgette Jones was kind of cute......maybe this one is going to be great, if anything just to see the amazing wardrobe.......The Devil Wears Prada looks really cute from the preview.  Buy your tickets early, if it rains this weekend, you're gonna be out of luck.

we'll pay you to see this film...

ohh cameron.....

ElizIf you're not a devout Cameron Crowe fan, such as myself, you may not know that he has a new film coming out in October, Elizabethtown.  The soundtrack is available in our library and through Itunes, and it's wonderful.  I highly suggest doing some catch-up on Crowe, if you have missed any of his films, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Say Anything, Singles, Jerry McGuire, Almost Famous, and Vanilla Sky.  What I wouldn't give to have a latte and a chat with that man.

now in production......

038550926x01_sclzzzzzzz_Being late to an appointment is never a good thing, even if it is NYC, and traffic and train delays go with the territory......stuck in gridlock on West 39th street, in a cab I barely managed to catch, my annoyance immediately faded when I saw that the blocked road was due to all of the production equipment necessary for shooting a film and that the name emblazoned in red on on the black directors chairs read, The Devil Wears Prada........which I found out will be starring Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway as Andrea, and the adorable Adrian Grenier (aka Vincent Chase on Entourage) as Nate.........all of my recent favorite books are turning into movies.......look for IN HER SHOES on October 7 in theaters.
