My grandma Hazel (inspiration for F&M's hazel purse) was the biggest fan ofBarbie that I ever knew. She started me very early and by the time I was 10 I had by far the most impressive Barbie collection of any girl in the Tri-state area. I still have a vast collection left to me from my dear gramma, sitting in my mother's walk in closet in North Carolina. New York City apartments don't really lend themselves to displaying collections but that doesn't mean that I don't have a very sweet spot in my heart for Barbie. On my wish list is the Diane Von Furstenberg doll, complete with her signature luggage (which I own in full-scale) and wrap dress (of which I own 6) and this collection of make-up by MAC (best line ever) and Mattel.
"If you ask most makeup artists and hairstylists who their first client was, most of them will say it was the Barbie head," said Gager of the life-size head-and-shoulders Barbie Styling Head popular in the Seventies and Eighties, which allowed users to practice hairstyling and makeup application. "We see Barbie as more than a doll — we see her as a fashion icon, and no one has really looked at Barbie as a vehicle for makeup before."
You can bet that I will purchase EVERY SINGLE PIECE -- just look at the packaging!!
The collection consists of four shades each of lipstick and Lipglass, each $14; three Cremestick Pearl Liners, each $14; six shades of eye shadow, each $13.50; three shades of Liquidfast Liner, each $16.50; black mascara, $11; two shades of powder blush, each $17.50; two shades of Glimmershimmer, each $16.50; two shades of Beauty Powder, each $20; two shades of nail polish, each $10; a $45 makeup brush, and a makeup bag in black with pink stitching and lining, $15.
Hmm, on second thought, that would cost me $483.50, I might have to pick some favorites....if my Gramma Hazel were still alive, she would buy the entire collection for herself and ME.......(yes, surprise, she was a big fan of makeup although she wore very little).
